Whitehorse is a commercial and residential municipality in Melbourne's east, about 15 km from Melbourne's CBD. Whitehorse is a mix of quiet residential streets, busy shopping centres and plenty of beautiful parks. Among other things, Whitehorse City Council looks after The Whitehorse Centre and Box Hill Town Hall, an event hub which hosts theatre, school events, council meetings and business conferences.
With the growth of the event hub and an ever-expanding range of events to be catered for, the Council were looking for a way of catering a quality cup of coffee without the need for professional baristas.
Operations Manager, Ryan Sinclair explains, “When I came onboard a few years ago, we were serving sachets or pour-over coffee, which was just not hitting the mark. With professional theatre coming through, it just was not acceptable.”
Ryan says they wanted to enhance the customer experience but keep things simple for the staff. With events like theatre productions, there are ‘rushes’ for coffee so the solution had to be quick and easy to use.
“The cafe experience without the bells and whistles,” Ryan explains.
